چکیده

Abstract Study question TESE is widely used for obstructive azoospermia (OA) as a surgical method sperm retrieval, but it benefiting the patient? Summary answer Since MESA-ICSI has very good fertilization rate, clinical pregnancy rate and delivery MESA should be employed OA subjects, not TESE. What known already micro-TESE are technically simple, retrieval surgery because they do require microsurgical skills. Some review articles have shown no significant differences in rates of cleavage, good-quality embryos, implantation, between ICSI with epididymal or testicular sperm. Clinical usefulness still controversial according to previous reports. design, size, duration We studied 110 patients diagnosed treated at Asada Ladies Clinic April 2004 December 2021. Participants/materials, setting, methods The was performed using micropipette micropuncture technique under operative microscope. When were present motility observed, additional punctures tubule performed. Aspirated samples transferred into modified human tubal fluid sent vitro (IVF) laboratory cryopreservation. Main results role chance Motile recovered all cases (110 cases). Of these, frozen thawed 101 cases. normal 76%. 399 embryo transfer (ET) cycles, 168 had (41% per ET). who underwent ART, 94 (93% case) pregnancies resulting 90 (89.1%) deliveries. It emphasized that since does involve incision testes, there fewer postoperative peritoneal irritation symptoms concerns about atrophy low testosterone levels. showed embryo, Although controversial, if ART TESE-ICSI same, less invasive on patient reduces burden embryologist process tissue. Limitations, reasons caution authors reported specimens contain DNA fragmentated when compared specimen TESE, subsequent poorer rates. did evaluate fragmentation. Wider implications findings A large quantity uncontaminated can retrieved which patient, need special processing before Additionally, reduce workload. Trial registration number applicable

Sperm retrieval for obstructive azoospermia

Advances in the treatment of male infertility now routinely allow men with obstructive azoospermia to have fertility treatment without microsurgical reconstruction. A variety of methods for retrieving sperm from men with obstructive azoospermia have been described. The goals of sperm retrieval are to obtain the best quality sperm possible, to retrieve adequate numbers of sperm for immediate use...

Live birth rates after MESA or TESE in men with obstructive azoospermia: is there a difference?

STUDY QUESTION How do live birth rates compare after intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) for men with obstructive azoospermia when using sperm derived from testicular sperm extraction (TESE) versus microsurgical epididymal sperm aspiration (MESA)? SUMMARY ANSWER Our study suggests that proximal epididymal sperm (from MESA) result in higher live birth rates as compared with testicular sper...

Prognostic factors for sperm retrieval in non-obstructive azoospermia

Testicular sperm retrieval techniques associated with intracytoplasmic sperm injection have changed the field of male infertility treatment and given many azoospermic men the chance to become biological fathers. Despite the current use of testicular sperm extraction, reliable clinical and laboratory prognostic factors of sperm recovery are still absent. The objective of this article was to revi...

Surgical sperm retrieval and intracytoplasmic sperm injection as treatment of obstructive azoospermia.

Male genital tract obstructions may result from infections, previous inguinal and scrotal surgery (vasectomy) and congenital bilateral absence of the vas deferens (CBAVD). Microsurgery can sometimes be successful in treating the obstruction. In other cases and in cases of failed surgical intervention, the patient can be treated by microsurgical or percutaneous epididymal sperm aspiration (MESA,...

Received on: April 28, 2009 – Accepted on: Oct 15, 2009 aBstRact Azoospermia is defined as the absence of mature spermatozoa in semen analysis after centrifugation. The causes of azoospermia may be related to spermatogenesis defects and classified as nonobstructive azoospermia, or to the obstruction of the efferent ducts of the genital tract and classified as obstructive azoospermia. Before the...
